Client: Messe Duesseldorf GmbH
Project period: January 2016 - August 2018
Research Areas:
Project team: Horst Penzkofer

Content

The task of this study was to calculate the direct and indirect economic impact of the Düsseldorf trade fairs and other events with the help of input-output tables.

Methods

By using input-output tables, the direct and indirect production and income effects, as well as the resulting tax revenue of the various authorities (City of Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia and Germany), were calculated.

Data and other Sources

Based on surveys conducted during the project of visitors and exhibitors at selected Düsseldorf trade fairs and other events, the total volume of visitors and exhibitors for a typical trade fair year was determined.

Results

  • Visitors and exhibitors at Düsseldorf trade fairs and other events spent a total of €2.22 billion.
  • The total aggregate sales volume as a result of the direct and indirect impact of the Düsseldorf trade fairs and other events is €2.98 billion, or ca. 27,700 gainful-ly employed persons.
  • With a trade-fair (and event) related output of €2.98 billion, the concomitant tax revenue is ca. €567 million.
