The Free State of Saxony will face further reductions of financial support from both the federal government and from the European Union for its operational programs after the year 2020. The ifo Dresden Branch recommended adjustments in the saxon funding policy to the State Chancellery of Saxony. The authors conduct a SWOT analysis on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the saxon economy. Based on this analysis, considerations on the evaluation of the current funding policies and the adequate implementation of saxon funding policies after 2020 were discussed. The valuation will be based on the efficacy and economic efficiency of the funding programs.
