The Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of European Commission conducts regular harmonised surveys for the most important sectors of the economy in the member states of the European Union as well as the applicant countries. The surveys include businesses in manufacturing, construction, retailing and selected services as well as consumers. These surveys make it possible to compare business cycle developments in different countries and have become important tools for economic analyses and forecasting for the EU with currently 25 members, the euro zone (12), as well as the applicant countries.
