ifo Export Expectations
The ifo Export Expectations, based on the ifo Business Survey, are a new indicator introduced by the ifo Institute in November 2014 to monitor and assess current and future developments in the export sector. The expectations focus on the export sector, are available on a timely basis, are not revised and offer a very good overview of developments in the export sector.

German Export Expectations Fall (November 2025)
Sentiment in the German export industry has taken a further hit. The ifo Export Expectations fell to -3.4 points in November, down from +2.2 points in October. “There has been hardly any movement in the export industry for months,” says Klaus Wohlrabe, Head of Surveys at ifo. “The mood is mixed at best. There are still no signs of a sustained recovery.”

Sentiment in the German export industry has clouded over. The ifo Export Expectations fell to +2.8 points in October, down from +3.4 points in September. “The German export industry is stuck in a rut,” says Klaus Wohlrabe, Head of Surveys at ifo. “There is no real recovery in sight.”
German Export Expectations Improve (September 2025)
Sentiment in the German export industry is brightening. The ifo Export Expectations rose sharply to +3.5 points in September, up from -3.0 points in August. “However, a sustained upturn is not yet in sight,” says Klaus Wohlrabe, Head of Surveys at ifo. “Global trade flows are currently undergoing a reshuffle. The German export industry is still searching for its role in this environment.”
