CESifo Publications

Publications are a cornerstone of CESifo’s mission. They play a vital role in making the research produced within the CESifo network accessible to the international academic community and the wider public. By disseminating cutting-edge work from leading economists across the globe, CESifo publications foster dialogue, stimulate debate, and contribute to evidence-based economic policymaking worldwide.

Among these, two publication outlets stand out in particular: the CESifo Working Papers Series and the Economic Policy journal. The CESifo Working Papers present early-stage research findings, offering scholars an opportunity to share new ideas and receive feedback from peers across the international research community. 

Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues 
After its 2025 relaunch, the Economic Policy Journal — now “Economic Policy: Papers on European and Global Issues — is published twice a year by Oxford University Press. It provides a platform for high-level, independent policy debate, bringing a European perspective to global economic challenges. Papers are presented at twice-yearly conferences, alternating between the CESifo Venice Summer Institute and Sciences Po in Paris. 

CESifo Working Papers
The CESifo Working Paper Series, disseminates early-stage findings of academic research conducted exclusively by members of the CESifo Research Network or participants of selected workshops. The series provides a platform for the rapid and open exchange of new ideas, fostering professional dialogue and collaboration across the global economics community.

Each submission undergoes an internal review by CESifo to ensure quality and relevance. Once accepted, papers are typically processed and published within one to two weeks and distributed worldwide through leading academic platforms such as SSRN, RePEc, and EconStor. Widely read and frequently cited, the CESifo Working Paper Series serves as a key channel for bringing innovative economic research to an international audience. Released before full publication in peer-reviewed journals, the Working Papers stimulate debate at the forefront of economic science. In the near future, the Working Papers will also include a Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
