CESifo-TransforM Workshop on the Economic and Societal Impacts of AI 2026

CESifo and TUM's Cluster of Excellence TransforM will jointly organize a workshop on the economic and societal impacts of AI, to be held in Munich on 3–4 December 2026.

The aim of this two-day workshop is to bring together economic researcher from around the world to discuss the impacts of AI on, for example, the labor market, productivity and innovation, competition, or firm organization, as well as unintended side effects, such as those on mental health.

We invite submissions of papers from all fields of economics; both theoretical and empirical studies were welcome. Papers can also address sector-specific studies evaluating the impacts of particular AI tools, for example in the health sector, education, mobility, energy, or public administration. We particularly encourage submissions from junior researchers.

The keynote lecture will be held by Joshua Gans (University of Toronto). 

Conference Details

The conference will commence at 9am on Thursday, 3 December, and end on Friday, 4 December in the afternoon. As the workshop took place as in-person event, streaming of sessions will not be provided. 

Accommodation (organized by CESifo) and economy travel for one speaker per paper will be covered in accordance with the CESifo Travel Policy.

Publication

All papers presented at this conference can be submitted within six months to the CESifo Working Paper Series.
